Search engines are a very important aspect to any website publisher or internet marketer. For this article I’m only going to talk about web based search engines. Search engines are actually relatively young. If you was born within the aptly titled, “information age” then you might not know that but actually the first search engines was created in 1993 and titled Wandex. Search Engines in essence provide relative content to users. They provide a great service for those who are looking for information within the vast internet.
From 1993 to now 2007, search engines have become a prominent figure within the internet. Money generated by some websites have allowed people to even earn a nice substantial income. Programs like Adsense, Yahoo Search Marketing (formerly named overture) are just a several programs that search engines have given birth to. Unfortunately, because of the financially lucrative nature of search engines have actually tried to manipulate it. This have caused many companies to come up with techniques to combat that and provide legitimate, relevant information.
No one for sure knows the ranking process of the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, and MSN). Though, we do know there are several factors that come into play when discussing the way search engines rank websites:
- The amount of links
- The websites where these links are coming from.
- The amount of original content a website has
- How frequent a website updates itself
- How long has the website been available
Due to the immense size of the world wide web, problems do arise when it comes to providing fresh updated content. Google, the leading search engine is working to combat that and i believe because of this that many people have taken a liking to their service. In all, search engines are something you should try to understand and take advantage of.
