You often hear the phrase ‘content is king’ on the web. Unfortunately, this is only half correct. You can’t put any old content or duplicate content on your site and expect the search engines or readers to reward you with visits. What stands out is providing fresh, quality content.

One way to distinguish repeated content is to wrap it with your own custom content (preferably both before and after the article). Another is to regularly seek out newer articles and replace the older articles with the newer ones. While this will entail some effort on your part, there are scripts available that can help with both finding articles and rotating them.

However, if you really want to have content that is loved by the search engines, the best technique is to write your own content.

However, many people feel intimidated by a blank sheet of paper (or these days a blank word processor document). Nevertheless, there are some tricks to make the process less painful.

The first thing to consider is to write about a subject you have some knowledge and passion for. Don’t take too long writing the first draft as you will be the only person reading this. You can edit it later on.

Just beginning by writing whatever comes to mind. In no time you will have plenty of content which you can edit and refine in order to make it suitable for others to read. However, always try to write about things you know the target audience would like to know more about.

One of the nice things about the web is that people only like to read screen-size chunks rather than long essays so we are only talking about 300-500 words!

If you want your content to lift your credibility or provide links back to your site then there are many article directories, such as FreshWebContent where you can publish your work. On the other hand, you may just want to put it on your own site.

After you have published your first piece of work you will see that the process isn’t as frightening as you first thought. Soon you will be able to compose lots of fresh interesting content that both the search engines and your visitors will love.
