David’s Love for God

In reading the bible especially the old Testament one of the most obvious facts is David’s love for God! One place to look is in the book of Psalm 119, focusing on the verses 1-16.

Here you can see how much David values God and his word. In verse 4 is where you first notice how important David consider Gods word, the bible: “You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed.”

Its valuable to take note that David states that God precepts are to be fully obeyed, not half way or partially. There is no such thing as the prosperity gospel. You cant take the word and than mold it to fit certain peoples lifestyle who doesn’t want to embrace the word as a whole. The Bible is to be taken straight forward in all its entirety. Of course we are not perfect and have all stumbled and fallen but still that doesn’t mean should not be fully embraced. David himself has even had his challenges, but still he repented and acknowledged God asking forgiveness for his sins. At the end God forgave him and held him in high regard as a Man of faith.

Obedience of the word is where the true admiration of David lies. A King, who once danced in public because of the great joy he found from God, even to the point his wife ridiculed him, is a man who strived to serve the Lord:

“I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119: 10-11.

In the previous verse one point that truly stands out is where David states that he has hidden Gods word in his heart. This shows how important it is to be in the word, meditate on it, and allow it to lead our lives!

Psalms 119: 1-16

Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart. They do nothing wrong; they walk in his ways. You have laid down precepts that are to be fully obeyed. Oh, that my ways were steadfast in obeying your decrees! Then I would not be put to shame when I consider all your commands. I will praise you with an upright heart as I learn your righteous laws. I will obey your decrees; do not utterly forsake me. How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you. Praise be to you, O LORD; teach me your decrees. With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth. I rejoice in following your statutes as one rejoices in great riches. I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways. I delight in your decrees; I will not neglect your word.
